How to Set Up Twitch Guru Video Shoutouts on Twitch

If you want to make your Twitch stream feel a little more interactive, video shoutouts are one of those small upgrades that can make a big difference.

Instead of shouting somebody out in chat and moving on, you can trigger an actual clip from their channel to play right on your stream. Their content pops up with sound and motion, your viewers get a quick introduction to the creator, and the shoutout feels more like a real spotlight moment instead of another message disappearing up the chat window.

That’s what Twitch Guru’s Shoutout Player is built to do.

Using Twitch Guru with OBS, you can trigger video shoutouts with a command such as !so, automatically pull a clip from another streamer’s channel, and display it directly on your broadcast.

Here’s how to set it up.

What Is the Twitch Guru Shoutout Player?

Twitch Guru, also known as Overlays. Guru, offers interactive tools that can be added to OBS and other streaming software using Browser Sources.

Its Shoutout Player lets you trigger a clip from another Twitch streamer during your broadcast.

For example, you can type:

!so @username

and have one of that streamer’s clips appear on screen.

This works especially well for:

  • welcoming raiders

  • shouting out collaborators

  • highlighting fellow streamers

  • recognizing members of your community

  • giving your mods another way to spotlight creators

Once everything is connected, the shoutout becomes part of the stream itself instead of living only in chat.

How to Set Up Twitch Guru Video Shoutouts in OBS

Step 1: Open the Twitch Guru Shoutout Player

Go to Twitch Guru and open the Shoutout Player.

Enter your Twitch username and connect your channel if prompted.

From there, you can customize how the shoutout player behaves and how clips appear on your stream.

Depending on the options available to your account, you may be able to adjust things such as clip duration, commands, visual appearance, recent clips, logos, and automatic raid shoutouts.

Step 2: Set Up Your Shoutout Command

Twitch Guru can use a command such as:

!so @username

to trigger the video shoutout.

When the command is used, Twitch Guru looks for clips from that streamer and sends one to the overlay connected to your stream.

If you use moderators to handle shoutouts while you’re live, make sure your command settings allow the people you want to use it.

Step 3: Copy Your Twitch Guru Browser Source URL

Once your Shoutout Player is configured, Twitch Guru will generate a Browser Source URL.

Copy that URL.

That is the piece that connects Twitch Guru to OBS.

Step 4: Add Twitch Guru to OBS

Open OBS and go to the scene where you want the video shoutout to appear.

Then:

  1. Click the + under Sources.

  2. Choose Browser.

  3. Name it something easy to recognize, such as Twitch Guru Shoutouts.

  4. Paste the Browser Source URL from Twitch Guru.

  5. Adjust the width and height if necessary.

  6. Resize and position the player where you want clips to appear on your stream.

I like placing video shoutouts somewhere viewers can actually see them without letting the clip completely bulldoze the rest of the layout.

Step 5: Test Your Video Shoutout

Before you use it live, trigger a test shoutout.

Use a streamer you know has clips and check that:

  • the clip appears

  • the audio plays

  • the player is positioned correctly

  • the clip isn’t covering something important

  • the volume matches the rest of your stream

Definitely test the sound.

A shoutout that suddenly comes screaming through the speakers at twice the volume of your microphone will introduce that streamer to everybody, all right. 😂

Using Twitch Guru’s Video & Sound Overlay Maker

Twitch Guru also has a Video & Sound Overlay Maker if you want more control over the content being triggered.

Instead of relying only on random Twitch clips, you can associate specific videos or sounds with chat commands or Channel Point rewards.

You could use this for:

  • custom guest introductions

  • recurring community jokes

  • special sound effects

  • celebration clips

  • Channel Point interactions

  • other stream alerts and moments

Like the Shoutout Player, the overlay works through a Browser Source that you add to OBS.

So once you understand that basic Twitch Guru → Browser Source → OBS workflow, most of the tools work in a pretty familiar way.

Can Twitch Guru Automatically Shout Out Raiders?

Twitch Guru also offers options for automatic raid shoutouts.

That can be useful if you regularly get raided and don’t want to depend on yourself or a moderator remembering to trigger a shoutout every single time.

Instead, a raid can automatically activate the Shoutout Player and play a clip from the incoming streamer.

For busy streams, that removes one more tiny thing you have to remember while you’re welcoming everybody, reading chat, switching scenes, and trying not to forget what you were talking about thirty seconds ago.

Twitch Guru Shoutout Not Working?

If your Twitch Guru shoutout player isn’t playing clips, start with the simple stuff.

Check that:

  • your Browser Source URL is correct

  • the Twitch Guru source is visible in your current OBS scene

  • your Twitch username is entered correctly

  • you’re using the correct shoutout command

  • the streamer you’re shouting out has usable clips

  • the Browser Source audio isn’t muted

  • the player hasn’t been moved off-screen in OBS

You can also remove the Browser Source and add it again using a fresh URL from Twitch Guru.

And always test with more than one streamer before assuming the entire setup is broken.

Sometimes the problem is the particular channel or available clips rather than the player itself.

Twitch Guru vs. StreamGood: What I Use Now

I used Twitch Guru for my video shoutouts for a long time, and it worked well enough that I became a Twitch Guru affiliate and originally wrote this tutorial around my own setup.

I eventually moved my personal shoutout system to StreamGood after I started running into reliability problems with Twitch Guru.

That doesn’t make Twitch Guru useless, and I’m not removing this guide because the Shoutout Player is still an option for streamers who want to use it.

If Twitch Guru is the tool you want, the setup above will get you moving.

If you want to see the shoutout system I currently use on my own stream, I also have a full guide on how to do video shoutouts on Twitch with StreamGood.

Tips for Better Video Shoutouts on Twitch

Once you have the technical setup working, the biggest thing is not letting the shoutout interrupt the stream more than it helps it.

A few things I’ve learned:

  • Keep clips relatively short.

  • Make sure the clip audio isn’t dramatically louder than you.

  • Put the player somewhere visible without covering your entire scene.

  • Test new settings before going live.

  • Use shoutouts for people you actually want your viewers to discover.

  • Give the clip a second to breathe instead of immediately talking over it.

The technology is cool, but the real point is still the person you’re shouting out.
